Where does the time go? Most of the exchange is gone, about 3 weeks left. I know I've mainly written about our trips and I feel like we're constantly going somewhere but I prefer it that way. I'm already freaking out thinking how all this is over soon and I need to go back to Finland. Boo hoo. Reality is hitting hard and soon we'll have to leave this bubble we're living in. A place where "normal life" isn't boring and we don't need to worry about grown up things.
The other weekend I got to fulfill one thing on my bucket list when Jenni and I went to Paris! I was pretty sure I would never make it there in my lifetime since I never have any money and this city isn't exactly the cheapest. I have to say that I get the whole Paris -hype: the city was ah-mazing! Huge, beautiful buildings everywhere filled with cute details.
Since we only had about a day and a half to spend in Paris, we ran from place to place in order to see as much as possible. Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Notre Dame, Sacré-Coeurn Basilika, The Seine River, Pantheon, Champs-Élysées... And of course the Eiffel Tower. I never knew something made out of metal could make a person so happy. I felt like a tourist. And there are plenty of them there. You have lines everywhere you go and the metro is packed so no wonder Parisian people emigrate out of the city during the summer when tourist season is peaking.
Nauratti.
Unfortunately our hostel experience wasn't as great as the city itself: we slept in a mixed dorm with four guys and one of them thought it was cool to air out his sweaty hiking shoes inside. Now I'm not sure where those shoes had been but even leaving the window open for the whole day wasn't enough to get rid of the smell. Our other Aussie roommate told us he had just been in Finland and had a very confusing moment being naked in a sauna. Crazy Finns.
Iltaisin on ihana kävellä katsomassa nähtävyyksiä, niistä näkee ihan uusia puolia valaistuna. Meitä suosittiin lämpimällä kevätilmalla, vaikka säätiedotus lupasikin sadetta. Palanen sydämestä jäi Pariisiin ja sinne on päästävä uudestaan, paremmalla ajalla ja paremmalla rahatilanteella. Ensi kerralla meinaan kiivetä Eiffel -torniin. Lupaan.
Paris was even more magnificent during the night time if possible. The Eiffel Tower has a blinking light show after dark and walking around the city in the middle of all the lights is breathtaking. We were blessed with warm weather despite the forecasts of rain. I think I left a piece of my heart in Paris and have to return one day with more time and money. Next time I'll even climb to the tower. I promise.
I read yesterday that the Bridge of Love Locks is being torn down because the weight is affecting the structure of the bridge :( Luckily I made it there before that!
